Tuesday, September 12, 2006I'm Not Me Anymore.Yesterday, I went on an expedition to the DMV to change my name on my drivers license. It was the last official document I needed to update to officially take on my married name. It was also a little weird, leaving the DMV office and knowing that, for all intents and purposes, the name I had known myself by for twenty-some years no longer existed. As visits to Official Places in D.C. go, this was pretty painless. I went to the DMV in Georgetown, and I have to say that being in an upper class neighborhood made a world of difference, compared to the more working class location I'd visited on previous trips to the DMV. The office was located in a mall, and was brightly lit, clean and comfortable, with cheerful, friendly staff. Which, I have to say, is pretty unheard of for a DMV, even in a small town. I was in and out in less than 20 minutes, bearing a fresh drivers license with a new picture (not bad at all) and a new name. The trip itself was actually pretty liberating. I hate a city bus, and avoid them at all costs. I've also not done a lot of traveling around the city alone without my car. It was nice to know that I was able to bus myself down to Georgetown, and find my way home again all by my lonesome. (But I still hate mero busses.) Posted at 10:48 AM ::
