Tuesday, July 11, 2006Accomplishments.I've managed to take care of all sorts of snazzy things this week, and its only Tuesday. Finally (after only 6 months of procrastinating), I put my application for the national massage certification exam in the mail. With luck, I'll have a permission to test letter by mid-August and have the whole process taken care of by the end of next month. Of course, now that means that I really have to crack down and study...and studying is so something I'm not good at! I also mailed off the paperwork to change my name with social security, which is the first step in that whole crazy process. I've been trying to get used to signing my new last name to things, but it still seems really, really weird. Getting used to saying it is even more strange than getting used to writing it. And yesterday, I did my first classroom massage demo. Basically, what that means is that the entire class, instructors included, gather around a massage table while you work. They watch what you're doing (closely, as they'll later be trying to emulate it), ask questions about what you're doing and why, and generally stare at you while you work and expect that you know what you're talking about. It was the first time I'd had that sort of attention paid to my every move, and the first time I'd had to verbally justify each little thing that I did. And I survived. I only botched things up once, but I don't think that's bad for a first time, particularly since I was completely put on the spot, and hadn't even had time to review the muscles before I started, so go me!
